Mongolia’s large red deer subspecies, hunted through the autumn rut.
Maral, Mongolia’s subspecies of red deer, is found in the taiga and Hangai forest, moving through larch forest and river-valley willow thickets. It is a large animal, and the autumn rut — typically September into October — is the main window most hunts are built around, when stags are calling and easier to locate by sound before they are seen.
We work with outfitters in Arkhangai, Khuvsgul and Khentii who know their local rut timing well, and confirm exact dates with you as the season approaches rather than fixing them a year in advance.
