Mongolia’s fishing year runs roughly from ice-out in spring to freeze-up in late autumn, interrupted in the middle by summer run-off that can colour the rivers for several weeks. Taimen, lenok and grayling all fish differently depending on where you are in that cycle, and the short autumn window before freeze-up is generally the most sought-after time for taimen specifically.
Exact opening and closing dates are set annually and confirmed with your outfitter closer to travel — we would rather tell you honestly that a date is not yet fixed than give you one that turns out to be wrong.
