Your guide meets you at your hotel and the day starts at the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, before the larger groups arrive. The galleries move from the steppe cultures that came before the Empire, through Chinggis Khaan’s rise and conquests, to the khanates that followed — with your guide filling in the stories that the labels leave out.
After lunch at a local restaurant, the afternoon covers the city itself: Sükhbaatar Square, a working Buddhist monastery and, if you want it, a market or a shop for cashmere and felt made in Mongolia.
The day ends back at your hotel, or with dinner and a performance of traditional music and throat singing if you would like to see one.
