The largest equestrian statue in the world, rising out of the open steppe at Tsonjin Boldog.
East of Ulaanbaatar, at Tsonjin Boldog, a stainless-steel Chinggis Khaan sits on horseback above the steppe, facing east toward his birthplace. At around forty metres it is the largest equestrian statue in the world, and it is one of the most striking sights within easy reach of the capital.
Visitors can climb up through the horse’s chest and neck to a viewing platform on its head, with the open grassland stretching away in every direction. Below the statue, a small museum covers the Bronze Age and the Xiongnu period, adding depth to a stop that is easy to treat as a photo opportunity alone.
On a private trip with your personal guide, you set the pace — and the statue combines naturally with Gorkhi-Terelj National Park and Turtle Rock in the same day.
