Hunting in Uvs

Isolated ibex country on the Siberian border, with minimal hunting pressure.

Uvs sits on Mongolia’s border with Siberia, and it is one of the more isolated hunting regions we work in. Weather windows can be tight and unpredictable, but the trade-off is a Siberian ibex population that sees very little hunting pressure compared with the more accessible parts of the Altai.

This is not a region for a tight schedule — flexibility around weather is part of planning a hunt here properly.

Access is a longer overland journey than most other Altai regions, and weather can close a valley for a day or more at short notice. Outfitters here build a buffer into the schedule for exactly this reason.

Once conditions allow, the hunt itself follows the standard ibex pattern: glassing from height, then a careful approach on foot across scree and rock.

Highlights

Minimal hunting pressure on Siberian ibex. Genuine isolation on the Siberian border.
